Zone

A zone is a single circuit associated with an input device or group of input devices in an alarm system. Each circuit is connected to a separate input on the main control panel (ie a zone). A zone is usually one movement sensor or a door sensor.

PCB

Printed Circuit Board.

Area An area is a group of zones.
For example, you may have two sensors in your garage, and eight sensors in your house. You might want to group these zones into 2 Areas which can be turned on and off independently.
PIR Passive Infra-Red detector.
This is a basic type of sensor that looks at the changes of Infra-Red temperature in a room to determine if there is movement in the room.
Quad Pir Quad Passive Infra-Red detector.
This is a single detector with two PIR sensors fitted in the one unit. When one of the PIRs sensed movement, it confirms that the other sensor has also sensed movement before it trips the alarm.
Dual-Tech "Dual Technology" detector.
This is a single detector with a PIR sensor and microwave sensor in the same unit. The microwave sensor work in a similar way to a 'ping' from a submarine. In simple terms, it sends out 'pings' into the protected area and then compares them to previously received signals. If there is a change in signals it means something is moving in the room. It also compares movement with the on-board PIR before it trips an alarm.
Dialler The area on an alarm panel which is responsible for sending signals to a user, control room or SMS gateway.
SMS Short Message Service - available on all mobile phones
SMS Gateway This is a hosted service which SMS enabled alarm systems ring using a normal PSTN phone line.
The dialler connects to the gateway and transmits its signal via a modem connection.
Once complete, the Gateway converts this signal to a SMS and transmits it to a mobile phone number.
PROX Prox is short for Proximity (or RFID).
Keypads and readers that are equipped with prox functionality can read a number of wireless tags and cards. Prox cards are usually used in access control, but with the 16Plus and 64 systems you can use them to turn the alarm on and off.
